With a love for writing and telling stories that began when she learned how to put a pencil to paper to create words, Sharon MacGregor always wanted to be a writer. The evolution began by composing educational pieces for cosmetology trade magazines, editing cosmetology and appearance enhancement textbooks. Moving forward, she wrote a weekly column, while reporting on local town and school board meetings, as well as community events for the Wallkill Valley Times.
Compiling comprehensive news features, and compelling human-interest stories for the Sullivan County Democrat, and Hudson Valley Magazine came next. Writing and editing five magazines published quarterly; Goshen Quarterly, Maybrook Quarterly, Montgomery Quarterly, Pine Bush Quarterly and Walden Quarterly over four years allowed her to hone her craft and truly use her voice.
Throughout her career, she has written blog posts, magazine articles, SEO content by assignment, and short creative fiction. Writing was never Plan B, but, the Real Sharon MacGregor was suppressed for years while she juggled writing, reporting, editing, life, and an unrelated full-time job. Back at the Wallkill Valley Times as a reporter and taking on freelance assignments, the Real Sharon MacGregor is also busy putting together the story of her breast cancer journey.
